The Palmer In-Court Division of the Alaska Court System (ACS) is accepting applications for a Courtroom Judicial Assistant (salary range 12) who will be responsible for maintaining a quality record of all court proceedings.

Ensure the production of a clear and completely understandable record of all court proceedings by monitoring electronic recording equipment in accordance with established standards; Maintain detailed, accurate, and legible log notes which correlate to the audio recording; maintain and promote proper courtroom decorum in apparel and demeanor; Prepare the courtroom for hearings each day; set up, organize, and maintain courtroom including the operation and testing of recording equipment, including recognizing damaged or malfunctioning equipment and taking appropriate action; set up videotapes, prep files, post calendars, and replenish supplies and forms; Facilitate the timeliness of hearings by gathering parties, calling for defendants in-custody, placing calls for telephonic hearings, and relaying information to the judge or judicial assistant regarding status; Administer oaths, distribute temporary orders, and presentence orders; Responsible for care and maintenance of exhibits from the time they are admitted to the time they are returned or put into storage at end of trial; Responsible for the safety, comfort, and well-being of jurors during jury trials; responsible for playbacks of testimony during deliberation, ensuring the jury hears only those portions approved by the judge; Conduct grand jury and judgment debtor examinations; Fill in as backup to the evening and weekend in-court clerk when needed; Out of court duties include prepare log notes, archive recordings, finish log notes from previous hearings, calendar future events, and process requests for tape/CD duplication and grand jury transcripts; Assist other departments and act as bailiff when needed; other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or Clerk of Court.

Completion of 36 semester credit hours or 48 quarter credit hours of coursework from an accredited college will substitute for the year of required office clerical experience.
