81, DOE Job Summary The Operations Building Plant Operator serves as back up to BPOs in Anchorage School District schools.
The BPO performs cleaning and building and grounds at the Maintenance and Operations building.
The BPO may also open schools, maintain grounds, perform cleanup, and other duties at school sites.
The position has a retirement association with the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS).
Job Requirements The following are required: A high school diploma or equivalent.
Two years of related work experience may be considered in lieu of the education requirement.
One year of custodial experience.
Knowledge of a general custodial position, including methods and materials used in custodial work.
Ability to perform heavy work required, such as extensive stooping and crouching, sustained standing, pushing and pulling, and frequent lifting of over 25 pounds.
Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools.
Ability to work safely on ladders.
An Alaska driver's license is required.
The following are preferred: One year of semiskilled maintenance experience.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations, and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Experience using custodial equipment safely and effectively.
Essential Job Functions Opens schools in the morning as needed when there are BPO shortages or no-shows.
Performs essential snow removal at school entrances when needed to cover BPO no-shows.
Arranges cafeterias and multi-purpose rooms for lunch when needed to cover BPO no-shows.
Assists with emergency mitigation cleanup as needed at schools, such as in the case of a plumbing break or ceiling leak, etc.
Assists the BPO supervisor as needed, such as delivering keys for sub BPOs.
Safely operates ASD white fleet vehicles throughout the district.
Makes minor repairs to custodial equipment.
Performs snow removal, sands, and/or chips ice on steps and walkways, keeping all exits/entrances free of all snow and ice at Maintenance and Operations buildings.
Cleans up spills during shift.
Distributes essential custodial supplies and equipment to school sites as needed, such as during summer work.
This includes pickup and transfer of items between sites or back to Operations.
Cleans clogged plumbing fixtures or report problems when necessary.
May work occassional over time hours as requested.
Physical /Mental Demands The physical demands of this job require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking and hearing.
Specific visual abilities are also required.
The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
Additionally, the employee must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, be able to readily recall facts and details, handle conflict and make effective decisions under pressure.
The employee must have the ability to effectively manage the stress of working with students, parents, and other employees representing diverse cultures, personalities, and work styles in a dynamic work environment.
