MOUSE INQUIRY! (Anchorage)

Truly, really, honestly, without doubt, etc, no kidding :) will delete this if someone will answer this stunning MOUSE question.
Does anyone know why the mouse stops working sometimes.
It's relatively new, now other problems, so don't think it is the mouse, but something that happened online.
Pretty scary when working and needing to copy and paste with deadline.
Happened few mins ago.
Put in "sleep" mode, then in less than a min it was OK.
Before that I had to manually move the arrow around on the screen! It shows a hand moving when using mouse.
