Candidates for 11-month trial approval or standing approval will be evaluated on suitability of their graduate-level academic coursework and preparation, past teaching experiences, expertise and experience relevant to the effective teaching of their specific field, and potential for providing high-quality instruction to undergraduate and/or graduate students in assigned Psychology courses at UAA.
Preferred Experience & Education: Applicants for 11-month trial approval and standing approval must have graduate-level coursework in, training in, and/or professional experience relevant to content of the course(s) being sought.
Although applicants for 11-month trial approval do not have to have prior teaching experience, such experience is preferred.
Required Experience & Education: Qualifications to teach lower-division (100-200 level) undergraduate courses in the Psychology Department: To be granted 11-month trial approval or standing approval by the Psychology Department to teach a lower-division PSY course applicants must have: 1.
at least 30 graduate credits in psychology (i.
e.
, with a PSY prefix), and 2.
at least a Master's degree from an accredited institution or active enrollment in the UAA/UAF joint Ph.
D.
program in clinical-community psychology, and 3.
relevant experience (such as graduate-level coursework, training, or professional work) for teaching the particular course in question.
Qualifications to teach upper-division (300-400 level) undergraduate courses in the Psychology Department: To be granted 11-month trial approval or standing approval by the Psychology Department to teach an upper-division PSY course applicants must have: 1.
at least 30 graduate credits in psychology (i.
e.
, with a PSY prefix), and 2.
a doctoral degree (Ph.
D.
, Psy.
D.
, or Ed.
D.
) from an accredited institution or a relevant Master's or Doctoral degree plus advanced certification (BCBA or BCBA-D) if applying to teach only a course in behavior analysis, and 3.
relevant experience (such as graduate-level coursework, training, or professional work) for teaching the particular course in question.
Potential applicants who do not meet all of these criteria are still encouraged to apply but must provide a persuasive justification for an exception to one or all of the above criteria.
For instance, graduate credits in a highly-related discipline (e.
g.
, Counseling or Education) might be considered for approval to teach particular courses (e.
g.
, Clinical Psychology or Child Development).
Approval for undergraduate courses is granted by the Department Director with the recommendation of the Psychology Undergraduate Studies Committee at UAA.
SPECIAL NOTES: Potential applicants who are requesting to teach PSY A111 (General Psychology) must have at least a Master's degree in psychology.
A graduate degree in a related-discipline (e.
g.
, Counseling, Education, Philosophy, etc.
) will not be accepted for teaching PSY A111.
Qualifications to teach graduate (600 level) courses in the Psychology Department: To be granted 11-month trial approval or standing approval to teach a graduate-level PSY course, applicants must have: 1.
at least 30 graduate credits in psychology (i.
e.
, with a PSY prefix) 2.
a doctoral degree (Ph.

, Psy.
D.
, or Ed.
D.
) in psychology (or closely-related discipline) from an accredited institution or a relevant Master's or Doctoral degree plus advanced certification (BCBA or BCBA-D) if applying to teach only a course in behavior analysis, and 3.
relevant experience (such as graduate-level coursework, training, or professional work) for teaching the course in question.
Potential applicants who do not meet all of these criteria are still encouraged to apply but must provide a persuasive justification for an exception to one or all criteria.
Approval to teach Master's-level courses is granted by the Department Director with the recommendation of the Psychology Clinical Training Committee at UAA.
Approval to teach Doctoral-level courses is jointly granted by the Directors of Clinical Training at UAA and UAF with the recommendation of the joint-doctoral committee.

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year.

Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis (including summer sessions), according to the needs of that semester's schedule.
Those who are approved will be granted an 11-month trial period that begins on the date that adjunct instructor first teaches a particular course - a date that might be several months after he/she was approved.
After the 11-month trial, adjunct instructors must then apply for 'standing approval' for a particular course.
Standing approval is based on a departmental review of the instructor's syllabi, assignments, and course evaluations, and will be granted for three years.
Adjuncts who do not teach continuously during that period of standing approval will need to reapply as per University regulations.
Therefore, adjuncts approved for an 11-monthh trial period are encouraged to discuss their syllabi and assignments during the trial period with tenure-track faculty who have taught that particular course at UAA in the past.

Qualifying earned degrees must be conferred by institutions of higher learning which are accredited by one of the six UA Regional Accrediting Associations.
