Mat-Su College offers an OEC (Occupational Endorsement Certificate) in Refrigeration & Heating.
This program prepares students with the technical skills required to install, diagnose, & repair modern commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems.

The Occupational Endorsement Certificate (OEC) in Refrigeration and Heating prepares students with the technical skills required to install, diagnose, and repair modern commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems.
Develop an ability to understand complex systems through class work and hands-on experience, including a sheet metal lab and fully functional ammonia refrigeration system.
Graduates from the R&H OEC at MSC have many career opportunities, can specialize in specific areas, and often graduate with a job in hand.

Typically, the assignment runs for the academic year to support the department during fall and spring instruction (late August - early May).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Must be able to provide congenial and effective support for students from diverse backgrounds and varying needs.
Must be familiar with the names and use of basic HVACR trades tools.
Ability to identify and locate parts and supplies in catalogs and on supplier's websites for ordering.
Ability to read and understand MSDS.
Ability to make neat and leak-proof connections in tubing and piping on HVACR systems.
Familiarity with proper refrigerant recover, evacuation, and charging procedures.
Familiarity with names and uses of HVACR trades components and supplies.
Ability to organize and maintain parts inventory.
Ability to assist students in bench firing high-pressure oil fired burner guns.
Ability to assist students performing furnace low-pressure gas leak tests.
Ability to assist students in firing and testing gas-fired heating systems.
Ability to assist students in making combustion efficiency analysis tests.
Familiarity with the safe use of sheet metal equipment.
Ability to recognize unsafe wiring practices and unsafe working conditions.
Ability to work safely with fuel gas and oil.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Typical Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience in the HVACR field (can include time in HVACR education).
Required Education or Training: Successful applicant will have formal training in the HVACR field and must possess an EPA section 608 certification (AAS in Refrigeration and Heating and industry recognized certifications preferred, but not required).
