The Alaska Center for Conservation Science at University of Alaska Anchorage is hiring a Research Professional 3 Ecologist.
The person in this position will develop new research projects; work with a team on existing plant ecology-focused projects, from logistical support of field campaigns, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and publication/presentation; develop geospatial products; manage projects; manage budgets; work with a team to developing new proposals and securing funding; collaborate with federal and state agency partners; and supervise technicians and student hires.
The Alaska Center for Conservation Science (ACCS), which is a center for research, education, and scholarship at UAA is committed to providing the public, industry, and agency partners with information to facilitate effective biological conservation and management of the state's natural resources.
Our faculty and staff conduct basic and applied research, serve a wide range of data to the public, offer professional services, and provide a range of educational opportunities and outreach.

• Knowledge of standard reporting procedures and publishing requirements for plant ecology.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with biologists, conservation professionals, and resource managers at varying technical levels.
• Ability to work in remote regions of Alaska and maintain a positive attitude under challenging field conditions.
Technical: • Ability to develop research protocols.
• Ability to use computerized tools to organize, analyze and interpret information and communicate findings.
• Ability to identify arctic and boreal plant taxa, classify plant communities, and map land cover types.
Budgetary: • Understanding of budgets to develop proposals, purchase materials, secure services, and manage spending.
Administrative: • Recruit, hire, coordinate and assign duties to other members of the research team.
Preferred Experience & Education: • Experience in planning and completing field work in remote areas of Alaska.
• Experience with methods of measuring and monitoring plant communities.
• Experience in managing, analyzing, interpreting, and displaying ecological data in both tabular and spatial formats.
• Experience with vegetation classification and land cover mapping.
• Experience with writing reports and grant proposals, as well as managing budgets and supervising technicians in the field or office.

A.
in biological sciences, botany, or ecology and four years research experience at the postgraduate level in a relevant field, or has an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Experience with relational databases, statistical analysis, and geographic information systems (GIS).
• Experience writing professional reports or scientific manuscripts.
Salary Information: This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package.
New hires will be placed on the UA staff salary schedule, Grade 80, based on education and experience.
