Alaska Native Studies is an Interdisciplinary Program that seeks to provide students with an introduction to Alaska Native Cultures, Languages, ways of knowing and critical perspectives on traditional and contemporary Alaska Native politics and issues.
The Alaska Native Studies Program offers a minor in Alaska Native Studies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Applicants must be available to work within Alaska during the length of the assignment.
Candidates will be evaluated on past teaching experience, potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students in either traditional knowledge or an academic focus in Indigenous or Alaska Native Studies.
Expertise and experience relevant to the effective teaching of Alaska Native Studies courses is required.
Preferred: Terminal degree in related field is preferred for upper division (300-400 level courses).
Any exceptions must be approved by the chair of the Alaska Native Studies Program in conjunction with the CAS Dean or the Associate Dean of Humanities.
Preferred Experience: Experience teaching at the college level, or extensive teaching experience in a traditional knowledge setting such as a cultural center.
Required Education or Training: Relevant Master's degree.
Exceptions may be made when prospective faculty have equivalent traditional knowledge and experience of Alaska Native issues and cultures - historical and contemporary, or Alaska Native Arts.
Such exceptions can only be approved by the chair of the Alaska Native Studies Program and the CAS Dean or Associate Dean for Humanities.
Doctorate degree in related field is preferred for upper division (300 and 400) courses.
Any exceptions must be approved by the chair of the AKNS Program in conjunction with the CAS Dean or the Associate Dean for Humanities.
Successful applicants must provide official transcripts documenting academic credentials required for the position as a condition of employment.
